Why our [Police Department] chose the Michelin High Visibility LED Road Flare

This is a true story of why this Police department selected the Michelin High Visibility LED Road Flare (now replaced by the FRED PRO) to replace traditional incendiary road flares for their officers. We have omitted the names at the request of the Police Department.

Our department was looking to replace their incendiary flares just like the neighboring Sheriff's department previously had.
We purchased several different LED flare units to test including the original FRED, the Fred Pro, the Michelin Flare, along with several others in the market. We took them out to a dark county road and set them all out in the open, the Michelin flare was by far the brightest in the bunch.

We looked at buying the same rechargeable flares that the Sheriff's department bought, but after talking with the Sheriff's Department officers, they found that the rechargeable flares "didn't make sense since they needed to be constantly charged - if they were dead, they were of no use when needed". They concluded that a tool-less battery powered flare was needed. We even tested the battery life of the Michelin Flare by placing them in the armory and leaving them on. Apparently the test was never completed; after 2 days someone turned them off because they were "tired of seeing them flashing"!

After testing, we decided that the Michelin High Visibility LED Road Flare would suit our needs perfectly. As a side note, we were also impressed with the video of the truck running over the flares and the reviews we saw online.
